　　　　狄武周天授元年，岭南潞州城司马孔成业迷恋修道炼丹，传闻找到了长生不老丹的药方，只缺一味名叫彼岸花的奇草。传言这是来自地狱的死亡之花，常年生长在坟冢幽谷之中，能致人产生幻觉，中幻觉者如妖邪附体般，发狂发癫，死状凄惨。                                    
   孔成业发出悬赏，采到彼岸花者，赏百金。山民猎户等纷纷进山寻找，连孔成业也带人到处扒坟冢、探幽谷。忙活的孔成业突然惨死，死前发狂。连他的几名参军也死相极惨，都说孔成业采到了彼岸花，被妖邪附身杀死，闹得满城风雨。潞州刺史陆英杰上报朝廷，恰逢狄仁杰巡查岭南诸州，女皇武则天命其前往潞州，全权调查此案.。
